Computing Science Instructional Lab Hardware

Overview

The Computing Science Instructional Lab (CSIL) currently have the following hardware setup in multiple campuses and study areas. Please report issues to helpdesk if you need assistance.


Latest updates:

We have put total of 102 Dell Optiplex 790 workstations in CSIL@Burnaby. (@2012.05.04)

We have put total of 32 Dell Precision T3500 workstations in CSIL@Burnaby. (@2012.03.28)

We have put total of 134 24" LCDs in CSIL@Burnaby. Now, all of the computers in CSIL@Burnaby are using 24" flat screen monitors. (@2012.03.02)

Burnaby Campus

CSIL@Burnay is located in the Applied Science Building (ASB), and consists of the following Study Areas:

The Network Area (ASB9700) , we have:

  • 32 Dell Precision Workstations
  • Operating System: Ubuntu Natty (11.04)
  • CPU: Intel Quad Core Xeon W3505
  • Display: 24" LCDs

The ASB9838 North and ASB9804 we have:

  • 102 Dell OptiPlex 790 Workstations
  • all equiped with 24" LCDs
  • Operating System: Windows 7 Enterprisel w/SP1
  • Intel Core 2 Due CPU
  • DVD Writers installed on all computers
  • 1 network printer (HP LaserJet 8100) on ITS print release system

The Multi-Media Area (ASB9804), we have:

  • Hauppauge PVR card installed for Analog video capturing on 1 Workstation (bagpipe)
  • Creative Labs Sound Audigy Platinum installed for Digital Video capture on 2 workstations (euphonium, flute)
  • 1 Television Set with VCR & DVD
  • 1 MIDI keyboard (will be in service upon request)
  • 1 Digital Video camcorder (loan out from HelpDesk)

The ASB9838 South and ASB9840, we have:

  • 78 Optiplex 760 Workstations
  • all equiped with 24" LCD
  • Operating System: Ubuntu Lucid

all with NVIDIA video cards ( graphics acceleration )

NOTE: O/S level programming (e.g. with fork() calls) must be done on Linux workstations in CSIL. No other hosts should be used on SFU network, no exceptions.


Surrey Campus

Windows Lab - Surrey 4050

  • 30 Dell OptiPlex 745 Workstations
  • OS: Windows 7
  • Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz 
  • All with DVD writers


Linux Lab - Surrey 4080

  • 30 Dell OptiPlex GX620 Workstations
  • OS: Ubuntu Linux 7.04
  • Pentium 4 3GHz
  • All with CD writers
  • 1 network printer (HP LaserJet 2320dn) on ACS print release system

CSIL Linux Servers

  • punch.csil.sfu.ca: 1 Virtual Server (File serving for profiles and notes, subversion)
    • Operating System:
    • 2 Core 2.0 GHz CPU, 4GB RAM
  • cs-nx.csil.sfu.ca: 1 Virtual Server (Linux Termianl Server, beta)
    • Operating System:
    • 2 Core 2.0 GHz CPU, 4GB RA
  • cs-vnl.csil.sfu.ca: 1 Virtual Server (Remote Linux Terminal Server for cmpt471)
    • Operating System: Ubuntu Hardy
    • 2 Core 2.0 GHz CPU, 4GB RAM
  • gemini.csil.sfu.ca: CPU server for special courses

CSIL Windows Servers

  • leto.csil.sfu.ca: 1 PowerEdge 2950 Application server (Remote Desktop login)
    • Operating System: Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise w/SP1
    • 4 Quad Core Xeon 3.0 GHz CPU, 16GB RAM
  • hermes.csil.sfu.ca: 1 Virtual Server (terminal server for CSIL Linux workstations)
    • Operating System: Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise w/SP1
    • 2 Core 3.0 GHz CPU, 4GB RAM
  • freesia.csil.sfu.ca: 1 Virtual Server (File serving for profiles and notes)
