CSIL Access Policy

  • To access CSIL, you must be registered in 1 or more CMPT course as a student, or be a CMPT TA or instructor.
  • To access CSIL, you need to use the access card. For details on access cards and how to get them, see the CARD ACCESS FAQ.
  • You may not lend your access card to anyone.
  • You may not open the secure door for anyone.
  • Emergency exits must be used only for emergency situations.

CSIL Use Policy

  • ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD OR DRINK is allowed in CSIL Study Areas. Any food or drink in your possession must be kept in a closed pack, briefcase, purse, etc.
  • Smoking is strictly prohibited in CSIL.
  • CSIL computers are for academic use only.
  • ABSOLUTELY NO GAMING.
  • Sharing your computer account(s) with others is not allowed.
  • Users must not display images, sounds or messages which could reasonably be perceived to create an atmosphere of discomfort or harassment to others.
  • Users must not intentionally disrupt the CSIL network or obstruct the work of other users, including sending spamming emails or messages, or consuming inordinately large amounts of system resources.
  • Any tampering with CSIL software or hardware is prohibited.
  • You may not connect your own computer to the CSIL network.
  • You may not install software on a CSIL computer (requests for additional software must go through the professor)
  • You may not load or run software on a CSIL computer that was not installed by CSIL staff, unless it was created by you as part of your assignment.
  • All computing activities must comply with the SFU General Policy (GP24).

Violation Penalties

  • CSIL is monitored for violations of these Policies. All violations will be documented.
  • A user who is suspected of violating these Policies will have her/his network privileges suspended immediately.
  • Repeated violations will result in suspension of all access to CSIL facilities. Violations of these policies are also subject to the normal disciplinary procedures of the University.
