Research Interests

Arthur Kirkpatrick's research focuses on making computer systems easier to use. His particular focus is on interaction techniques, the detailed operations that users perform to control a system. He is developing interfaces incorporating richer and more expressive styles of movement than possible with the mouse and keyboard. In particular, he is investigating haptic interfaces, interfaces that incorporate the human sense of touch. He is also interested in theories describing the progress from novice to skilled use of such enriched interaction techniques.
