Dr. Alexandra Fedorova
Assistant Professor, School of Computing Science, SFU
I lead the Systems Research Group at SFU, which is a part of the SyNAr (Systems, Networking and Architecture) lab that I co-founded. My research focuses on system design for multicore processors and on parallel computing.
I received a Ph.D. in Computer Science at Harvard University in 2006. My thesis was on Operating System Scheduling for Chip Multithreaded Processors, under the supervision of Margo Seltzer, Mike Smith and Chris Small.
I have served or am serving on the following program committees: WIOSCA 2007, WIOSCA 2008, SPAA 2008, ASPLOS 2009, ACM OSR 2009 (April 2009 Special issue), WIOSCA 2009, PESPMA 2009, HotPar 2009, and EuroSys 2010. I also co-chaired the First USENIX Workshop on Hot Topics in Parallelism, HotPar'09. Look out for a CFP for HotPar'10!
My research is supported by Sun Microsystems, Electronic Arts BlackBox, Google, Intel, and Strategic and Discovery Grants from the Canadian National Science and Engineering Research Council.
Recently I was interviewed for the launch of OpenSolaris 2009.06. Click here to watch the video.
Sun Microsystems is the largest sponsor of my group. We have very favourable long-standing relationship with Sun and we work with Sun researchers on a variety of projects from scheduling in OpenSolaris to transactional memory and to parallelization of video games.
In 2009 I was a recipient of a Google Research Award .
On August 18, 2009 my group has participated in the ScienceAlive Technology Camp, where we educated the kids about problems in multicore computing. Read about it here.
If you are a prospective student interested to join my group, read this info page.
