Transferring files to and from CSIL

The first thing you should know is that your home directory on CSIL machines is the same as the home directory you see on fraser.sfu.ca. That means that if you transfer files to or from fraser, that's just as good as tranferring them directly to CSIL. So the goal is essentially: get them to fraser.

The most common method of transferring files is FTP, the File Transfer Protocol. FTP connections are insecure. There can also be problems with FTP because of improper configurations by your ISP.

For a secure connection, you can use a SCP, Secure Copy program. These provide an encrypted connection.
